Olight i3T EOS

Olight has been known in the market for a while as a budget friendly alternative mainly for weapon-mounted lights (WMLs) and certain laser modules, especially their Odin line, which has a successful track record as a budget-friendly light for rifles, and their pistol-mounted lights, such as the PL-Mini 2 Valkyrie and Baldr models.

I bought this i3T EOS Limited Edition directly from Olight’s website in 2020 during a limited-time sale, the bundle included the i3T EOS, the i3E EOS (Mono Output Keychain Light), and a PL-Mini 2 Valkyrie (Picatinny-rail-mounted handgun light), all in a limited-edition olive green metallic finish. All three lights for $50.95 were a great deal in November 2020.
Although the i3T sat in a drawer for a few years, I’ve recently started using it more for daily carry instead of the bulkier, heavier Convoy S2+, since it’s powered by a single standard AAA battery, it has an advantage over less common 18650 or CR123 batteries, I tend not to use the pocket clip because, on some occasions, the light has fallen out of my pocket when grabbing something else from my pocket, so I usually let it sit loose in a deep front pocket of my jeans or cargo pants.
The i3T EOS has two modes. I switch it on and off with a quick tap after the blinking to alternate between the two presets:

- 180 lumens, with an estimated battery-life of 21 minutes
- 5 lumens, with an estimated battery-life of 16 hours

The beams on both low and high modes.

I haven’t depleted any batteries yet. I’ve been using rechargeable 1700mAh AAA batteries and only replaced one after more than a year of use because I noticed the 180-lumen mode wasn’t as bright as before. While 180 lumen isn’t much compared to many flashlights, it’s more than adequate for daily use. I’ve used it to search for screws in a dark garage at night or on my car’s floor multiple times.
Regarding the specifications, it has IPX8 water resistance and 1.5-meter impact resistance. It features a Philips LUXEON TX LED. The bi-directional pocket clip is a nice touch for using it on a cap as a headlamp. It’s a neat little light sufficient for daily tasks but not designed for tactical applications or outdoor activities like camping or long road trips.

Pros
  1. Very compact and lightweight
  2. IPX8 water resistance and 1.5-meter impact resistance
  3. Uses a single AAA battery with excellent battery life (over a year per battery)
  4. 5-lumen mode is ideal for illuminating small objects up close without glare
  5. Bi-directional pocket clip for use as a headlamp
Cons
  1. The 180-lumen mode lacks the brightness for outdoor use
  2. It’s so small and light I’ve forgotten it in my pants pocket several times
